Dear 2026 Superior Spring Trail Race Runners, Spectators, Volunteers, and Partners;
The ‘Stewart Fire’ has led to the closure of Minnesota Highway 61 just northeast of Two Harbors MN at Lake County Highway 2 / 4th Street. This fire is approximately 55 miles to the southwest of where the race is held in Lutsen MN. Given the distance, the fire itself is not impacting the Lutsen area or the race.
Race participants traveling from the southwest / heading ‘up the shore’ should follow posted detours (if any) and / or use available resources (phone or paper map) to find a route around the closure of Highway 61. Depending on what detour is available to you in the morning, plan for extended travel time to Lutsen of up to an hour. 1 hour is our current best guess / high estimate as available detours and amount of traffic has changed over the course of the early evening into tonight, and it is hard to predict now what detour(s) will be available to you on Saturday morning.
As of right now morning check in and the three race distances are scheduled for Saturday without modification.
We are monitoring the overall situation and are in contact with local agencies. We will keep you posted via email if anything should change.
Thank You,
John Storkamp
Race Director
