Superior Spring Trail Race Volunteer Communication 1 2023

Date: Tuesday April 18, 2023
Subject: Superior Spring Trail Race Volunteer Communication 1 2023

Greetings past and present Superior Spring Trail Race volunteers,

We are just under five weeks until this year’s Superior Spring Trail Race. This year’s race date is Saturday May 20, 2023. The race always held the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend.

You are receiving this email for one of the following reasons:

a.) You have already signed up to volunteer this year (thank you!) A list of those who have already signed up can be found HERE https://www.superiorspringtrailrace.com/volunteer-assignments/

or

b.) You have volunteered at the Superior Spring Trail Race in the past and we would love to have you back. If you can’t make it back to volunteer this year we hope it is because you are planning on running, crewing, spectating or just coming up to hang out to have a good time.

And… no pressure! We will have enough volunteers – if we are ever badly in need / hurting we will be sure to say as much!

If you are interested in volunteering it helps me to stay organized if EVERYONE (even those that routinely forget to sign up) can go to the website and sign up to volunteer (it only takes a few minutes) HERE https://www.superiorspringtrailrace.com/volunteer-signup/ – Please provide any useful information that will help me in assigning you to your volunteer position; i.e. the days and times that you are available, what position you have worked in the past, names of anyone you would like to be assigned with, other preferences, etc. If you are interested in helping with equipment cleanup and storage on Monday May 22 at our home in Hastings, please indicate that as well.

We will continue gathering volunteer information another couple of weeks, then when we have just about everyone committed we will start making volunteer assignments – look for further communication at that time.

As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. We are looking forward to seeing you at Superior!

Thank You,

John Storkamp

More About the Area:
The North Shore of Lake Superior runs from Duluth, Minnesota at the Southwestern end of the lake, to Thunder Bay and Nipigon, Ontario, Canada, in the North to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, in the east. The shore is characterized by alternating rocky cliffs and cobblestone beaches, with rolling hills and ridges covered in boreal forest inland from the lake, through which scenic rivers and waterfalls descend as they flow to Lake Superior. The shoreline between the city of Duluth to the international border at Grand Portage as the North Shore.  Lake Superior is considered the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area. It is the world’s third-largest freshwater lake by volume and the largest by volume in North America.  The Superior Hiking Trail, also known as the SHT, is a 310-mile long distance hiking single-track hiking trail in Northeastern Minnesota that follows the ridgeline overlooking Lake Superior for most of its length. The trail travels through forests of birch, aspen, pine, fir, and cedar. Hikers and runners enjoy views of boreal forests, the Sawtooth Mountains, babbling brooks, rushing waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. The lowest point on the trail is 602 feet above sea level and the highest point is 1,829 feet above sea level.
